Child Death Investigated

Denver police are investigating the death of a 7-year-old boy who officers say appeared to be suffering from malnutrition.

Police say 26-year-old Jon Phillips and 21-year-old Sarah Berry are being held for investigation of homicide. Their connection to the boy wasn't released.

Police officials say the boy weighed 30 pounds when he was found and may have been kept in a closet periodically.

Police say the boy died Sunday.

Chief Deputy Coroner Michelle Weiss-Samaras says an autopsy was conducted but further tests are needed to determine a cause of death. The boy hasn't been identified yet.

Denver Human Services Manager Roxane White says the boy's younger sibling has been placed with a foster family.

Anyone responsible parent with a 7 year old son that weighed only 30 pounds would seek medical help for that child the moment a problem was detected. There is NO excuse for this type of neglect.

What was the health of the other child? Was there any reports of neglect or abuse in the past? were drugs found in the home? I cared for a child who had a rare disease that prevented her from digesting foods and she had to take a lot of medicine for it. She was so skinny and frail.
