(Glenwood Springs-AP) -- Crews rehabilitating land damaged by a wildfire near Glenwood Springs are looking out for grave sites and other signs of the Ute Indians who once lived in the area.
Representatives of the Northern and Southern Ute tribes toured the burn area last week to get a firsthand look at the damage.
Bill Kight, heritage resource manager for the White River National Forest, said previous fires have destroyed most cultural artifacts vulnerable to fire.
He said the tribes and federal land officials are now concerned about damage to cultural sites from firefighting, efforts to control erosion and from erosion itself.
