Soldier claims disciplinary hearing based on behavior prompted by brain injury
An Army soldier claims he faces a disciplinary hearing for behavior he blames on a brain injury suffered during Special Forces training. He says his injury was ignored by his commanders who sent him to Iraq anyway.
Fort Carson officials refuse to comment on Specialist Paul Thurman's case, citing medical privacy laws.
Thurman faces up to 30 days in custody if convicted at a court martial of disobeying an order.
Medical records released to The Associated Press indicate he suffered a brain injury when a log fell on his head during training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in March of last year, and again when a mock explosive exploded within three feet of his head.
A list of allegations for his disciplinary hearing does not mention Thurman's injuries.
