An accused killer, Janet Hilton, was expected in court Tuesday afternoon, but her attorney waved the advisement.
Until Friday, The Hilton's did not have a history of domestic violence on record.
According to the court records obtained by 11 News, the couple filed for divorce a year and half ago. They dismissed the filing a short time later.
Janet hilton was denied bond because she's facing a first-degree murder charge for stabbing her husband, Daniel Hilton.
"Ms. Hilton is aware of her rights and we will waive any further reading or advisement of the charges," said Hilton’s attorney as he appeared for her advisement Tuesday.
Police reports show the stabbing was a result of an evening filled with drinking which led to a domestic dispute.
Connie Brachtenbach, the executive director for Tessa, an advocacy group for victims of domestic violence, says women are about 5 times more likely than men to be abused. "Clearly men are victims of domestic violence," said Brachtenbach.
There is no legal history of abuse for the Hiltons. Brachtenbach tells 11 news many domestic violence cases, especially those against men, often go unreported. "Its definitely something people aren't comfortable talking about," she said. "With all domestic violence cases, without the proper intervention, there's always the potential for lethality."
This is the 18th homicide in Colorado Springs this year. Police tell 11 News this case is the second murder related to domestic violence.
Janet Hilton is expected to make her first official appearance in court on Monday.

Too bad the TESSA in Colorado Springs doesn't reach out and assist those "few men" that are victims of domestic violence. I have a friend that was a victim and TESSA did absolutely nothing for him. And the woman that did it is a psychotic sociopath that should be sitting in prison, but isn't because she is a psychologist and knows exactly what to say to get herself out of trouble. Until TESSA actually starts assisting the men that are victims, they shouldn't even be talking about the fact that men are victims. Don't just sit there and tell us men are victims, start helping them instead of turning them away and denying that it did happen to them.
