As President Obama continues to consider the next steps in Afghanistan, thousands of troops, many from Fort Carson, are on the ground fighting. The Army released video of soldiers from the 4th Brigade Combat Team involved in a two hour fire fight with the Taliban.
The fight happened within the past few weeks outside a small village in Qatar Kala, Afghanistan. "We constantly get intel. We heard radio chatter, saying, ‘Hey, we're ready.’ We knew something was going to happen," says Sgt. Levi Vernon.
From the ground and the air, U.S. soldiers killed five insurgents. “Our job is to kill the enemy. I wish we could fight our fight and not their fight," says Sgt. Vernon. A U.S. pilot was wounded.
President Obama plans to announce his strategy in Afghanistan sometime after he returns from Asia later this week.
