The Gazette in Colorado Springs has laid off 11 employees, including seven in the newsroom, leaving fewer than 300 people on the staff.
President and Publisher Steve Pope said Friday that three employees in circulation and one in advertising also were cut. The newspaper employed nearly 500 people in early 2007 but has cut its staff through attrition and several rounds of layoffs as advertising revenues have dipped across the industry.
Pope says deteriorating economic conditions, particularly among retailers, auto dealers and the real estate industry, prompted cuts in the 2010 budget, triggering the layoffs.
The company already had tried to cut expenses through furloughs and 5 percent salary cuts.

GOOD! Like many others, I eagerly await the news that they're closing their doors completely. The Gagzette has been a very poor joke for many years now. When a telemarketer called recently to ask if I would consider renewing our subscription to the Gagzette, I said "no just NO, but Hell NO" the telemarketer laughed and said they're getting a lot of that kind of answer.
And yet the CEO got a huge bonus! You'll never read about that in the gazette! Stop reading their paper online, they can track it and charge more for advertising. Gazette needs to go completely under.
They will probably lose a lot more employees. Their mother company has declared bankrupcy and the prices here have gone up drastically. We won't subscribe to delivery anymore. we get our news from KKTV and KRDO on line. will miss the comics mostly lol
