A University of Northern Colorado student has died from a bacterial infection related to meningitis.

Health officials say 20-year-old Sierra Krizmans died Tuesday.

The Larimer County health department is investigating her death and notifying people who had close contact with Krizman about taking preventive antibiotics.

The bacteria are spread through secretions from the nose and throat.

Krizman commuted to the campus in Greeley from Loveland -- where her family lives.

She was studying elementary education.
