A soldier based at Fort Carson near Colorado Springs was killed by a roadside bomb earlier this week in Iraq.
Twenty-year-old Brian Lee Holden of Claremont, North Carolina, was a gunner with the 17th Field Artillery Regiment from Fort Carson.
Holden's family says he was looking forward to two weeks of leave in late April.
He had planned to spend his leave with his 20-year-old wife, Amanda, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Holden died when a roadside bomb detonated near his Humvee.
He planned to leave the Army next year and start a family.
