People in Colorado Springs are reacting to the attack on the U.S. military at Fort Hood, Texas.

The shooting hits close to home because many people in Southern Colorado have family and friends in the military, who wear the uniform daily and put their lives on the lines.

A.J. Matthews is a Colorado Springs resident. He says, "Being a military community, our hearts go out to all the folks there, just trying to make a difference in the world, showing up for what they thought was a routine day of work, get themselves checked in, next thing they know they're dealing with violence right here in our own country."

Meanwhile, Bob Garrett tells 11 News, "Nobody likes to hear of anything like that happening especially if it involves American soldiers. Of course everybody is under a lot of stress in our country for a lot of different reasons, so you never know what the motive is."

Joe P. Tanner is retired U.S. Army. He says, "I feel sorry for the families. You know at this holiday time it's bad. It's bad to have a deal in the family at anytime, but this is really unbelievable."

deal = death? This is terrible. I have family stationed there and I thank god they are ok. My prayers go out to the families that lost someone.
