Service Academy Surveys

Students at the three service academies are filling out identical attitude surveys for the first time in a move designed to allow better comparison of attitudes about women and other issues within the military.

The surveys for the Army, Navy and Air Force academies are required under a federal law enacted last year during the Air Force Academy's sexual assault scandal. Colorado Senator Wayne Allard proposed the bill after hearing from dozens of female cadets.

The Defense Department wrote the survey and will handle results.

Air Force Academy spokesman Johnny Whitaker says the survey will
give officials some valid statistical data to compare among the three schools.

Results are due out late in the summer.
