One woman lost her life, many other residents were hurt, and others are now digging through the debris that used to be their homes. You can help The Red Cross provide assistance in Holly.

The following is a news release from The Red Cross sent out Thursday morning:

The American Red Cross Southeastern Colorado Branch in Pueblo has deployed to Holly, Colorado to respond to the tornado that occurred late Wednesday evening.

The Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle and cadre of disaster response volunteers are on site in the affected area delivering emergency services such as sheltering and feeding. Working with the Garden City, KS and Denver, CO Red Cross chapters, the Pueblo Red
Cross branch is opening a shelter for the displaced families at the Anna Bryce Building, 206 N. 3rd St. in Holly.

Additional volunteer teams will be deployed to Holly today to conduct an impact assessment. Initial reports indicate that as many as 60 homes have been damaged. The Pueblo Red Cross branch will continue to provide for the urgent needs of food, clothing and shelter and has teams of volunteers on stand-by to begin individual client casework and
counseling services. The Southeastern Colorado branch can be reached by calling (866) 561-2614.

The Red Cross in Pueblo is accepting monetary donations to their Local Disaster Relief Fund to help provide emergency services to those that have been displaced by this disaster. Donations can be made by check, made payable to the American Red Cross and mailed to 4104 Outlook Blvd, #135D, Pueblo CO 81008 or made online at

The American Red Cross helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Last year, almost a million volunteers and 35,000 employees helped victims of almost 75,000 disasters; taught lifesaving skills to millions; and helped U.S. service members separated from their families stay connected. Almost 4 million people gave blood through the Red Cross, the largest supplier of blood and blood products in the United States. The American Red Cross is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. An average of 91 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs. The Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on donations of time, money, and blood to do its work. Contributions to the American Red Cross may be sent to American Red Cross Pikes Peak Chapter, 1040 S. 8th Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80906.
