Plans are underway to widen and modernize the portion of I-25 running through Colorado Springs.
The plans include widening the highway to 6 lanes between Monument and South Academy, with 2 additional carpool lanes in parts.
Crews will rebuild 5 interchanges, including the ones at Bijou and Rockrimmon. Up to 8 noise barriers will also go up along the highway.
The price tag for all this work? An estimated $500 million.
Construction could begin as early as next year if the environmental impact assessment, due out Monday, is acceptable.
