The state Labor and Employment Department reported June's
seasonally adjusted unemployment rate at five percent -- down from
May's five-point-two percent.
First-time claims for unemployment also dropped to an average of
about 32-hundred per week in the second quarter from 44-hundred per
week in the fourth quarter of last year.
Governor Owens applauded the news, saying the figures released
today show a strengthening state economy.
With one exception, each of the state's major industry sectors
added workers last month. Government experienced seasonal losses in
education.
