State Attorney General Ken Salazar has the early lead in the race for the Capitol.
A Rocky Mountain News poll finds Salazar is leading by a large margin, mainly because of his name recognition. The poll was taken March 31st and April 1st. Four hundred Coloradans who say they are likely to vote in this year's elections answered the poll.
The results show Salazar scored 88 percent in name recognition. Congressman Bob Schaffer, who is running on the Republican ticket, scored 70 percent. Democrat Mike Miles came in at 25 percent followed by real-estate millionaire Dave Liniger with 22 percent.
Political strategists say the numbers mean little, because the race will tighten once Salazar's opponents launch campaign ads to increase their name recognition.
