The suicide of Fort Carson Green Beret William Howell is getting attention from the Defense Department.
DOD researchers are asking for a blood sample from Howell. They are looking for traces of narcotics and an anti-malaria drug called "lariam" which can have psychiatric symptoms.
Howell shot himself in front of his house in Mounment after a confrontation with local police.
He had been home just 3 weeks after serving in Iraq for 10 months.
His suicide raises questions about the use of lariam and the Army's post-combat screening of soldiers.
