Drought Deadline

Unless some major storms come to the rescue, the state will be in a drought this year.

A University of Colorado climatologist says April 1st is the deadline to determine whether the state is in a drought.

He says March is usually the wettest month in Colorado and the mountains should be hit with storms every week. But so far, it's not going according to plan.

The Federal Drought Monitor shows most of the state is already experiencing moderate to extreme drought.

But colorado's not alone. Half the states west of the Mississippi River are also suffering unusual dryness.
