More E.Coli Cases

Updated: Mon 4:05 PM, Jul 22, 2002

(Denver-AP) -- Colorado health officials have confirmed three additional cases of E. Coli, bringing the state's total of cases to 20.

In the second-largest meat recall in U.S. history, ConAgra Beef Incorporated of Greeley, recalled 19 million pounds of hamburger meat last week because of possible contamination.

The latest cases involve a 70-year-old woman from Park County
who was hospitalized and later released, and a 16-year-old Douglas County girl. Two brothers from Douglas County, ages eight and 14, also became ill after eating hamburgers at home.

At least six other cases of E. coli-caused illness have been reported in California, Michigan, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Washington and Wyoming. None of those cases have been definitively linked to the recalled beef, though health officials are investigating a possible link.
