A relative says most of the nine people killed in a house fire in New York overnight were immigrants from Mali.
The victims include eight children and one adult. At least 10 other people were injured. Five of them suffered serious injuries. Four firefighters and one emergency worker were treated for minor injuries.
The fire broke out late last night in a three story brick building in the Bronx. A relative says the four families living there had 17 children.
Witnesses describe a gut wrenching sight as a woman threw children through a broken window. One man, who caught two children, says all he could see was a "big cloud of white dust" when out of nowhere came the first baby.
Other people in the building were screaming "Help me! Help me!"
New York investigators don't know yet what caused the fire.
