Beginning Monday, Colorado Springs Police officers will start carrying some new weapons.
All 350 patrol officers in the department will be assigned a taser stun gun. The weapon sends an electric shock through a person and can be fire from up to 21 feet away. It's used to subdue a person who is threatening a police officer without resorting to deadly force.
The department bought 188 tasers for 185 thousand dollars. Each officer will undergo 10 hours of training to become certified to carry the new weapons.
