New Life for Old Garage

The city of Manitou Springs is planning a long-awaited facelift for an old garage on Manitou Avenue. Once the multi-million dollar project is complete, there will be shops, parking, and public access to Fountain Creek. What's unusual about the project is what it used to be.

The garage they're looking to redevelop used to be a secret testing facility for cars no one knew existed. The building was a test facility for General Motors, where engineers developed brakes and carburetors. At one point, the goings-on inside were so top secret, other companies tried to send spies in to take photographs.

A groundbreaking for the renovation is set for next Spring.
