President Bush's tight budget could delay the cleanup of mustard gas at the Pueblo Chemical Depot by up to a year.

The President’s budget released Monday would give the depot $4.9 million in fiscal 2005. The depot was expecting $151.6 million.

The money would have been used to start construction on a plant to neutralize the mustard gas. About 2,600 tons of mustard gas are stored at the depot.

"It's very necessary that this community have those weapons destroyed that that land be returned to us and we can move forward from here,” says Pueblo County Board Chairperson Loretta Kennedy.
