Railroad Loan

(Durango-AP) -- Colorado may help the historic Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad deal with losses from the Missionary Ridge Fire.

A one-and-a-half million dollar loan package has been approved by the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority and the Governor's Office of Economic Development.

The railroad serves more than 200,000 visitors to the Four Corners area each year and employs more than 200 people. It is also credited with an estimated 100 million dollar economic impact to the area.

The railroad estimates it lost about 2.2 million dollars in June and July because of the wildfire which destroyed 70,000 acres.
