Attorney General Ken Salazar has asked the U-S Supreme Court to turn down a Republican request to temporarily block a congressional redistricting plan.
A stay would allow Secretary of State Donetta Davidson to use a GOP redistricting plan for the November elections while the Supreme Court decides whether to get involved.
The state Supreme Court last year ruled in favor of Salazar when he asked justices to throw out a map drawn up by Republican lawmakers and reinstate boundaries drawn by a judge in 2002.
The state court said lawmakers can redraw the maps only after every census and before the ensuing general election.
