The Colorado Supreme Court says term limits do apply to the state's district attorneys. The high court upheld term limits for district attorneys on Monday, keeping in place a constitutional amendment voters approved in 1994.

Voters in Pueblo County exempted their district attorney from term limits the following year, but the secretary of state rejected that vote.

Pueblo County District Attorney Gus Sandstrom sued in 2002, hoping to run for a seventh term in November. The high court's decision also upheld a lower court ruling that Sandstrom can run for another term, even though he's already served the maximum two terms since voters imposed limits in 1994.

It's unclear what the decision means for the state's other 21 district attorneys.
