Some frightening moments this week for an Ordway family. They got a call from their kids school telling them their 5-year-old son was missing.

Fortunately he was found safe, somehow he ended up in the wrong line and accidentally got on the bus instead of waiting to be picked up by his dad.

David Montes says he'll never forget the terrifying phone call he got on Monday afternoon. "I got a call from the school saying my son was missing," Montes said.

His son 5-year-old David Montes Junior had gone to an after school program, but when it was time to go home, David was no where to be found.

"My oldest daughter Angel is the one that brought it to their attention, she said where's my little brother," Montes said.

Officials at the school immediately started looking for David.

"The principal went back in, searched the building, couldn't find the student, called the students parents, did a perimeter search of the building," said Crowley County School District Superintendent John McCleary.

David's dad and nearby neighbors also started searching.

"I went around honking my horn, hollering for him, ran into other kids, everyone just went looking," Montes said.

McCleary says about 45 minutes later David was found safe. He had accidentally gotten on the bus.

"He got off the bus in Crowley six miles away and another little kid said that's the boy they are looking for, that's David," Montes said.

McCleary says they are working to make sure something like this never happens again.

"We need to be careful because every kid is precious in Crowley County School District and we want to make sure that they are always safe so we will be implementing a full review of procedures," McCleary said.

But David says he's still on edge scared to let his kids out of his sight.

We called some other school districts in the area to see what policies they have in place. D-20 says they rely on bus drivers getting to know the kids and D-11 has an ID system, you have to have one of these ID’s to even get on the bus.
