Grocery Store Cards

Three grocery giants with stores in Colorado say they have no plans to use shopper cards to notify consumers about potentially dangerous purchases.

King Soopers, Safeway and Albertsons say the decision reflects the mood of consumers, many of whom think the cards already give away
too much information about customers' spending habits.

Washington-based Quality Food Centers, posted signs in meat departments inviting customers to call to find out whether they had bought any of 10,400 pounds of recalled beef. Customers who called were asked to supply card numbers, and the chain then pulled up computerized purchase records.
