That in spite of intense pressure resulting from last year's sex
assault scandal.

The freshmen chalked up a two-point-nine-two GPA on a
four-point scale.

They were spared much of the humiliation by seniors that was
part of academy life for years, partly because of reforms brought
on by the scandal.

Academy spokesman Johnny Whitaker says the freshmen also had a
low dropout rate. It was two-point-five percent for the fall
semester. That's the lowest percentage in at least a decade.

If the class has an average attrition rate this semester it will
lose 12-point-one percent of its members during the first year.
Again, that would be among the lowest in a decade.
