A Fort Carson soldier who gave his life for his country is remembered on the Mountain Post on Wednesday. Specialist Rian Ferguson died Dec. 14 on duty in Iraq.
The 22-year-old from Taylor, South Carolina fell out of a tactical vehicle. He was with Supply and Transportation Troop of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment..
Friends who knew him say, his smile made you smile. "Always kind of joking around. Always had something to say to brighten the moment up," recalls SGT Scott A. Gardner.
When Rian Ferguson wasn't on the road, delivering needed supplies, anything related to basketball was his life. He was part of a team that won a championship before he left home.
"He was only 22. It's kind of admirable that someone that age, to know they are risking their life, going out there every day and doing it," said Gardner.
A quiet guy, a hard worker and someone who gave it 100% all the time.
