Colorado College will keep its Division I status, and continue awarding scholarships in men's ice hockey and women's soccer.
The vote to amend Proposal 65 was 296-to-106 with 17 abstentions. It came Monday during the 2004 NCAA Convention in Nashville. A Division III reform package then passed as amended 304-to-89 with 18 abstentions.
The outcome preserves men's ice hockey and women's soccer at the
Division I level at Colorado College and seven other institutions. An NCAA waiver granted in 1983 allows the Division III schools to sponsor athletic programs that compete at the Division I level.
The Tigers have won two national championships in hockey. The women's soccer team has advanced to the championship match twice,
in 1986 and 1989.
