A 65-year-old woman was killed when her car lost control in Huerfano County Friday.

Colorado State Patrol says a single vehicle accident occurred around 11 a.m. Friday, 14 miles east of Walsenburg, on Highway 10.

The 65-year-old woman was driving a 2001 GMC Jimmy westbound on Highway 10 when the SUV went off the right side of the road, then over corrected to the left, then the right again, causing it to spin and then roll.
The SUV then collided with a barbed wire fence before coming to a rest.

The woman was not wearing a seat belt. Her name is not being released, pending notification of next of kin.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the accident. Colorado State Patrol says the driver's inattention to the road is considered the primary factor. The speed and crash still remain under investigation.

The saddest line in all these stories is the part about the lack of wearing a seat belt. So preventable. What a sad waste of life.
