The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment says it has obtained 2,280 more doses of flu vaccine. All told, the department has been able to get its hands on 12,430 extra doses of the vaccine in the last ten days.

Governor Bill Owens praised the health department for its efforts to find more vaccine, saying the state is making sure that children, the elderly and others at risk from flu have access to shots.

Douglas Benevento, the department's executive director, said Friay that the vaccine was provided to Colorado free by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. He said the latest doses are part of 300,000 doses of flu vaccine being distributed by CDC. Health departments throughout the nation are receiving half of those doses.
