Allard Considering Retirement?

Republican Senator Wayne Allard says he's retiring after two terms. But he has left himself some wiggle room.

Allard told The Gazette newspaper he might reconsider seeking a third term, despite previously saying he'd step down at the end of his current term in 2008.

For now, he says he intends to keep his pledge to limit his terms. He's keeping the door "cracked a little" because there might be a national emergency.

Allard will be 65 at the end of his term. He took the lead this year in demanding accountability for the Air Force Academy's sex-assault scandal. The military has launched three investigations and Congress
ordered a fourth at Allard's request.

The Air Force replaced the academy's four top commanders.
