One Colorado Springs man dies after falling more than 200 feet down a frozen waterfall. Reid Hunt was planning to go ice climbing with a friend Sunday morning. The two had hiked down off of Old Stage Road.
El Paso County Search and Rescue says 31-year-old Reid Hunt “went to look over the edge, to look over the sheet of ice they were going to rappel down,” Steve Sperry with Search and Rescue said. Apparently, Hunt was too close to the edge and he slipped, falling more than 200 feet.
“There were other climbers there. They did CPR and called 911,” Sperry said. Hunt wasn't wearing ice cramp-ons that help grip the terrain.
An autopsy will be done on Hunt tomorrow.
