The Pikes Peak Region continues to see both light rain and snow, even a mix in some places so far in the early afternoon hours. Eventually this afternoon, the rain will change all into snow for the Pikes Peak region, while areas to the south and east start picking up on rain. A doctor who tracks flu in the state's nursing homes believes the disease has led to the deaths of several hundred elderly people in the last month.
Doctor Greg Gahm says the flu has been diagnosed in at least 30 of the state's nursing homes. Gahm is a geriatrician at Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center in Denver. Two of his 75 elderly patients have died of flu
Gahm says flu deaths in the elderly is underreported, even by doctors. He says careful tracking of deaths in the elderly would show that several hundred in the last month are attributable in part to the flu.
