43-year old Matthew Prichard is an art teacher at Palmer High School. Police say Prichard had sexual contact with a female student, who is now 16 years old. He's been charged with one count of sexual assault on a child by someone in a position of trust.

Students at Palmer High say they can't believe it, especially because he was arrested Monday afternoon after teaching art classes as normal all day.

As students leave school for the day. Some of them are shocked to hear about the accusations. "It's kind of disgusting. I don't know all about it. But, my initial reaction is why," said student Alex Arneson. "I'm really surprised. It's something I wouldn't expect. He's a good teacher," said student Michael Lenker. 43-year old Matthew Prichard is accused of sexually assaulting a female student several times at Palmer High during second semester of last year. But authorities say it was just recently reported. "We found out late last week and that's when our investigation started," said detective Adam Rimone with the Colorado Springs Police Department. An investigation that may not be complete. "It's hard to say if more victims will come forward. Sexual assault is a difficult crime for people to talk about especially young ladies," said Rimone. Prichard has been a teacher for 21 years. Five of those at Palmer. He's also taught at Sand Creek and Falcon High School where he coached football as well.

Prichard has already posted bond. And is expected to be in court next Thursday. District 11 official say he is on paid administrative leave pending the results of the police investigation.

Prichard is the second Southern Colorado teacher to be arrested this year accused of sexual misconduct involving minors. The other was a basketball coach at a charter school in Monument.
