Durango Mudslide

By: Associated Press
Updated: Mon 10:54 AM, Aug 05, 2002

Road crews are cleaning out culverts and ditches near Durango a day after a mud slide hit land scorched by the Missionary Ridge wildfire.

Homes and businesses near Vallecito Reservoir were damaged by mud and water after about a half inch of rain fell on the burned area.

Road crews want to clean up dirt and mud left by the slide in case there's more flooding later Sunday. More heavy rains are forecast for the Durango area.

Saturday's mudslide is the second one to hit the area since the 70,000-acre wildfire was contained.
