An email sent out accidentally contained the Social Security Numbers of 1,084 Department of Corrections staff members.

The email was sent to 103 DOC employees. A spokesperson for the DOC says more than half never opened the email. The others who opened it had it deleted off their computer. Two employees forwarded the email to their home computer. Katherine Sanguinetti with the DOC says those employees likely forwarded them because the email also contained directions for employees regarding tax information.

The employee is under investigation, but right now, the DOC says it was a mistake.

A warning to all the employees went out on Monday to tell them about what happened. They have been encouraged to watch their credit for identity theft.
