A wind-whipped wildfire has destroyed eight mansions and damaged five others in the glitzy community of the rich and famous. Santa Ana winds are blamed for fanning the fire over more than 20 acres.
TV coverage shows flames boiling out of the skeletons of stately homes.
Fire officials say there are no injuries. More than 300 firefighters aided by helicopters battled the blaze which began about five p-m Pacific time.
Famous residents of Malibu include Mel Gibson, Pierce Brosnan, Pamela Anderson, Barbra Streisand and Ted Danson.
