A Monument family is saved from a house fire this morning after their smoke detectors were set off.

It happened just off Higby Road and and I-25 around 9 A.M.

Crews from the Tri-Lakes Fire Department were first on scene.

7 rural fire departments worked on the fire without hydrants.

A mutual aid agreement called in extra help that kept the fire from engulfing the entire house.

One firefighter suffered minor burns.

Investigators at the scene say the preliminary cause of the fire is accidental.

They also say it could have been a lot worse if the fire burned past the garage and entered the house.
