After a mild Saturday, temperatures to finish the weekend will be MUCH colder! A system to our west pushes into SE Colorado overnight. Snow showers will be possible by early Sunday morning across the I-25 corridor with a change to rain and snow showers through the afternoon. Accumulation should be minimal as most moisture looks to be light and temperatures will warm into the upper 30s and 40s through the afternoon, though areas in higher elevations could see 1-2". The main impact will be the cold along with winds gusting up to 40 mph at times. Click on the 'Weather' tab for more...
A skier is dead after being caught in an avalanche yesterday at Snowmass.
Twenty-five-year-old Nicholas Blake Davidson of New Castle was buried for about a half hour before ski patrollers and others were able to dig him out.
He was skiing in the Hanging Valley Wall area, expert terrain that has not been opened yet for the season.
The ski resort had received about 15 inches of snow in the previous two days.
Avalanche deaths within the boundaries of ski areas in Colorado are extremely rare.
The last one happened in 2005 and until then, Colorado had gone 20 years without an avalanche death inbounds.
