El Paso County Search and Rescue units and multiple agencies rescued a 19-year-old male who reportedly went off the the side of Mount Herman Road, west of Monument.
The car went off of a washed out section of the road and landed 140 feet down. The area where the crash happened has a lot of erosion from recent rain. Authorities believe the road may have given way when he drove over it.
The driver has several head injuries and was taken by flight for life to a Colorado Springs hospital. The man was awake. He could be heard from several feet away screaming in pain.
Authorities say the accident happened on Friday night. They say he was the only person in the car and said he spent the night alone for roughly 12 hours before he was rescued. It took El Paso County Search & Rescue less than an hour to get the man out of the ravine area.
The man reportedly crawled 30 feet uphill before resting on a boulder where he could be seen from above. Passers-by are the ones who spotted the man and called 911.
The 19-year-old told rescuers that he couldn't remember what happened. Authorities say he was not buckled in and was ejected from the car.
The man was driving a white Jeep which destroyed by the 140 foot drop.
The speed limit on Mount Herman Road is 20 m.p.h. The U.S. Forest Service says it is critical that everyone obeys the limit.

Our hearts are heavy with concern for our grandson Bryan. We would like to thank all those involved with his rescue and medical care. Thank you also goes out to all the neighbors that have been there to console my son and his family. We pray everyday that God will give Bryan back to us. The process is slow, and we receive updates daily. Not one day goes by that our thoughts and prayers are not with him, my son and his family. Words don't do justice on how our hearts aches. I believe that God is watching over my grandson Bryan and will return him to us soon. Once again, thanks to everyone who has been and will be involved with Bryans' recovery.
Being so far away has been extremely hard. I get daily updates on Bryans' condition from family members. It is comforting to know that everyone that knows him is pulling for him to make it though this difficult time. Thanks to each and everyone who participated in Bryans, rescue and all the doctors and nurses that are caring for him now. My prayers are with him, my brother Jack, sister-in law Dawna, my nephews Dan and Chris, my niece Persephanie, and my great nephew Kevin. May God be watching over Bryan as he continues on the road to recovery.
I am also Bryan's aunt. I love you Bryan, you are a fighter. We are all praying for your recovery. Love, Aunty Kathy
