The Heat Is On: Law Enforcement On Patrol Over Holiday Weekend
Law enforcement is on patrol for the holiday weekend. Friday night, El Paso County Sheriff's office, Colorado Springs Police and Colorado State Patrol all held DUI checkpoints to keep the roads safe.

Law enforcement is on patrol for the holiday weekend. Friday night, El Paso County Sheriff's office, Colorado Springs Police and Colorado State Patrol all held DUI checkpoints to keep the roads safe.
Law enforcement says that 1/3rd of the fatal crashes so far this year have involved alcohol. Statistically, 4th of July weekend is one of the worst for drunk drivers on the roads and law enforcement is sending a message with their patrols. If you drink, don't drive.
The same rules apply on the water as well. There will be enforcement on state reservoirs and lakes, making sure that boaters aren't boozing.

Steve... I think they only report the location on the news after the police are done at that check point.

I think the DUI checkpoints are great and totally support this effort to get intoxicated people off the roads. I think it is not very responsible for the news to report the exact location. Lets just tell the people where to avoid.

I would like to say "Thank You" to our Colorado Springs Police Department for their extra efforts in keeping drunk drivers off the road this weekend. Ironically, we were stopped at a check point tonight as my family returned from burying my 19 year old son, Stephen in McAlester, OK on Thursday. Stephen was killed in Norman, OK Sunday morning by a presumed drunk driver.(We are awaiting toxicology reports)Stephen and his girlfriend got in the car at the request of her girlfriend, unaware that the driver was under the influence. He drove his new car 120 miles an hr into a tree. The car split in half and slammed Stephen and Stephanie into the tree. Words will never express the broken heart that I will suffer the rest of my life or the suffering of his father, six siblings and six nephews and nieces. His friends and an entire community are in shock and mourning at his tragic death. Stephen had just joined the Army and was due to report on July 27th.(The driver also died that morning)MADD
