The new Post 9/11 G.I. Bill is expected to help take some of the pressure off veterans who are headed back to school.
Unlike the previous G.I. Bill, the new program will pay the schools directly for tuition and fees. It will also offer other structured benefits such as books and supplies stipends and housing allowances to those that qualify. Veterans at Wednesday's information session at Pueblo Community College say, they are excited about the new program.
"I can go full time, and I don't have to worry about the end of the month, how am I going to pay this... The [new] G.I. Bill makes it a lot easier for us," says Army Veteran, William North.
Trying to figure out if you are eligible, and for what benefits, is a complicated process. It is recommended that you use the online application found on the G.I. Bill website. If you select the "unsure" option the Veterans Affairs office will contact you with your personalized benefit options, so you can make the best decision. However, because of elevated interest in the program you can expect to wait a few weeks before you hear back from them.
