Colorado's new Episcopal bishop supports gay issues and says he plans to appoint a task force that will examine sexuality topics facing the church.
Forty five year old Reverend Robert O'Neill was consecrated Saturday as the 989th bishop in the Episcopal Church USA. He will serve as a coadjutor bishop until Colorado Bishop Jerry
Winterrowd retires January first. After that, O'Neill will become the administrator of the Colorado diocese of 35,000 Episcopalians.
O'Neill comes to Colorado as the church deals with fallout from the election this summer of the nation's first openly gay Episcopal bishop.
Conservative Episcopalians planned to meet this week in Plano, Texas, to plan their next move regarding the decision.
O'Neill has voiced support for allowing more gay participation in the church, but says there would be no significant changes in diocesan practices for at least his first six months.
