Pikes Peak Community College is warning us to be wise to the latest scam: crooks claiming to be students doing a fundraiser.
The college sent out a notice Friday afternoon announcing the scam, which has been reported in the Colorado Springs area.
The crooks are approaching people, saying they are raising money for school-sponsored trips or school projects, or even to put themselves through school.
They've shown their victims catalogs, coupon books, magazine subscriptions, or other products which they claim to be selling. Some of the crooks have even shown buyers a "student ID".
But Pikes Peak Community College warns, it's all fraudulent. The sales have not been approved by PPCC, which does not authorize any door-to-door or street corner solicitation by students or staff.
If you're approached by someone claiming to be a fundraiser for PPCC, the college asks that you report it to the College or your local police department immediately.
