Leaders in the Colorado Republican Party have asked Dick Wadhams, credited with engineering the defeat of Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle in South Dakota, to run for Colorado party chairman in March.
Senate Minority Leader Andy McElhany says he began recruiting Wadhams soon after last month's election, when the GOP lost control of the House, Senate and the governor's office for the first time since John F.Kennedy was president.
McElhany says it hasn't been determined whether the party's central committee would ask the current party chairman, Bob Martinez, to step down.
Wadhams would still have to run for the post at the state party's central meeting in March.
