In a 7 to 2 vote, Colorado Springs City Council approved a rate increase for both gas and electric. The average bill will be going up about 15 percent. That's about a $20 increase.
Dennis Sanger with Colorado Springs Utilities tole the Council that the rate hike was necessary because both natural gas and electricity prices are going up.
Colorado Springs Utilities forecasts this increase will be enough to cover the price increases over the next year.
The rate hike is effective October 1st. But you won't see the full impact on your bill until the November billing cycle.
