With the colder weather on the way, police say that's when car thieves are more likely to strike. Police say that about 70% of stolen cars are because there were keys left inside. Apparently, it’s a problem in Colorado Springs. Every 5 hours in the city, a car gets stolen.
Bill Shirley knows that first-hand. “They hot wired my car.” His truck was stolen in broad daylight outside his business, but Bill is one of the lucky ones; he got his truck back. "What went through my mind is that I want to find these people (thieves) and strangle them,” Bill laughed.
Police warn not to leave keys in an unattended car. You could get a ticket from police.
So far this year, more than 1,400 cars have been stolen.
