2 inmates have escaped from the Pueblo County Jail. Authorities say Wednesday night, at about 9:40 p.m., someone driving by the jail reported seeing an inmate sliding down the building.
Staff members locked down the facility, and did a head-count. They realized that 2 men being held on felony charges, were missing.
22 year old Daniel Ernesto Smith was the first discovered missing. Smith is described as 5’07, 190 pounds with very short brown hair, brown eyes and several tattoos. He was being housed in the Pueblo County Jail on charges of 1st degree Kidnapping.
Scott Anthony Gomez, 21, was discovered missing shortly after and he is described as 5’04, 130 pounds with a crew cut, brown hair and brown eyes. Gomez was on a Department of Corrections Hold and has a history of escape.
The initial investigation indicates that the individuals broke out a piece of the ceiling and climbed into a heating vent that led to the exterior of the building. They had fashioned bed sheets into a rope and climbed down to a 1st floor roof then jumped onto the ground.
Pueblo County Investigators, Pueblo County Star and Stat teams, as well as the Pueblo Police Department, Department of Corrections Investigators and K-9’s from both DOC and Pueblo County Sheriffs Office worked into the night trying to find the men.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of either individual is asked to call the Pueblo County Sheriffs Office or Pueblo Crime Stoppers. If any citizen comes in contact with these individuals they are reminded not to approach them but to call 911.
