Air Force Academy Reopening to the Public

The Air Force Academy has reopened some of its grounds to the public after being closed for more than eight months.

Certain areas of the base have been closed because of security concerns. Those that are reopening include: the cadet chapel, visitor center, Arnold Hall, the field House facilities, and cadet athletic fields.

Another important change visitors need to know is, they will no longer need to show identification in order to gain access to the Academy.

Because of the closing of many of the base's popular tourist sites, according to Air Force officials, the number of visitors dropped this year by about 40,000. They estimate $1.1 million in revenue, normally generated from gift shops and restaurants, have also been lost.

The changes are now in effect. Academy officials say the same driving and parking procedures will remain for Falcon football games.
